In this week’s issue of Billboard magazine there is an interview with Katy Perry in which she talks about an interview that she had with Barbara Walters for her 10 Most Fascinating People special in 2011. She tells Billboard that she “shouldn’t have done the interview” because she was playing Madison Square Garden that same night, and she knew the end of her marriage was coming so she was exhausted and stressed. She was running late for the interview, but Walters showed up at the original time and was none too pleased when Perry showed up late.
Perry apologized when she finally showed up but, according to Perry, Walters told her “You know, I’ve only ever waited for one other person this long, and you know who that person was? Judy Garland. You know how she turned out, right?”
Since seeing the interview with Billboard magazine Walters has since issued an apology to Perry on her talk show, The View. She said “Katy, if I made you feel at all unhappy, during a time when you were obviously unhappy, and I didn’t know, I’m sorry, but you can’t always know!”
As for how Katy feels about the whole situation, she’s had nothing but positive things to say about Walters when speaking to Billboard, and said that she (Walters) was just doing her job. “I think it’s the coolest thing that Barbara Walters shaded me, I just couldn’t tell her as we were sitting down for a mega-interview, ‘Hey, my marriage is falling apart. Give me a break.’”
While it’s always sad when there is a misunderstanding between two big Hollywood stars, we are glad to hear that everything seems to be okay now with no hard feelings between the two ladies.
