According to reports, Men in Black 4 is actively being worked on, but the film will not feature Agent Jay, famously portrayed by Will Smith. The Hollywood Reporter interviewed the producers of Men in Black, Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald. The producers confirmed the reports that the series will move forward -- and that the move will take place without Will Smith. We have no word yet on the potential of an appearance from Tommy Lee Jones.
The films have been very successful, which is why it makes sense from a revenue standpoint to continue the franchise, but continuing without one of both of your stars doesn't. I will remain on the fence about this new film based on whether or not Jones returns. I just can't imagine a reason Jay would leave the agency. As we learned with Kay (Jones) in MIB2, there's nothing out there for you after you've joined up. I seriously hope they don't kill our characters off.
