After retrograde reverses your sense of “normal,” chaos and ambiguity can ensue. This is the premise for the song “Spiral” from the upcoming ‘Dark Matter’ EP by international edgy-pop artist, MERLIN. Even though the full project doesn’t drop until Friday, November 5th, PopWrapped isn’t leaving you in the dark. In fact, we’re here to light up your sky with the exclusive premiere of the new track.
After feeling stranded and alone in space, MERLIN managed to exploit self-awareness and doubts to create a song that further showcases her versatility as a pop powerhouse. “The whole process required more vulnerability than I’ve previously shown,” says the German/Albanian raised songstress. “From the lyrics to the way I sing, I had to be softer. Something I’m still getting used to.” The poignant yet redemptive track rounds out this project effortlessly, representing a restorative stage of life that MERLIN calls “Dark Matter.”
“Every track I’ve been working on till this point has been a mode of healing,” she explains. “Things came to the surface and out of the dark to be illuminated. I sing about parts of my life where I felt like I was surrounded by nothing, an absence of light and love.” MERLIN is empowering, and reminds us all to not let ‘Dark Matter’ engulf you. Instead of exploring the galaxy trying to find people and things to bring solace, find your strength from within and shine. “Healing isn’t linear but I know my path forward, even if it’s just the next step,” she shares. “I’m letting the universe figure out the rest.”
