At last night’s Emmy Awards we saw a shell shocked Merritt Wever, Zoey Barkow on the hit Showtime television series Nurse Jackie, take home her first Emmy for the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Wever received her first Emmy nomination last year in the same category for the same role.
Wever was obviously more than surprised at having her name called as the winner of the category, delivering what must’ve been the shortest acceptance speech in the history of any awards show acceptance speech. Shaken, she said “Thank you so much,” paused then delivered her best line, “I gotta go. Bye.”
And that was it, she quickly made her exit off stage. Definitely short and sweet from the Emmy award winning actress.
Later when talking to reporters backstage she seemed to still be dealing with the shock of her unexpected win but she did give her speech another try. “I wanted to thank a lot of people, uh it’s happening again,” she said clamming up again. She did however confess that there were a lot of people that she wanted to thank, especially “everyone at Showtime” and her co-star Edie Falco
.
When commenting on her win she jokingly admitted, “I’m scared because it was unexpected.” She then added “I don’t know how to feel yet. I mean, I have therapy [next week].”
Wever triumphed over Modern Family stars Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara, 30 Rock’s Jane Krakowski, Jane Lynch for Glee, Mayim Bialik for The Big Bang Theory and Anna Chlumsky for Veep.
Apart from her award-winning role in Nurse Jackie, Wever also starred as Elizabeth in last season’s New Girl and had a guest role on The Good Wife.
