We all know the classic Alfred Hitchcock story, The Birds, where a seaside town is set upon by flocks of seagulls and crows. The townsfolk run inside any available building in the hopes of escaping the winged menace. It is a terribly thrilling film.
So why is Michael Bay confirmed to produce the remake?
The 1963 favorite will be directed by Dutch film-maker Diederik Van Rooijen, while Bay will be serving as a co-producer on the project. Naomi Watts is said to be considering the role of Melanie Daniels (originally played by Tippi Hedren), a San Franciscan who becomes unstuck on her recent travels.
“Why would you do that? Why” Hedren asked when confronted with the news of Bay’s remake.
The film will be co-produced between Mandalay Pictures, Universal, and Bay’s own Platinum Dunes productions.
So I want to know if this remake, which was first dreamed up in the not so distant past of 2007, will feature gigantic robotic birds of terror, or if it will simply reintroduce our heads to our desks.
Only time will tell, I suppose.
