Amidst all the hosting rumors and cast members departing, this came as a real surprise! It seems Saturday Night Live creator and producer Lorne Michaels is trying to reinvent the show to bring it back to its former glory. One very interesting development is that former SNL writer and current correspondent for The Daily Show, Michael Che, is replacing Cecily Strong as co-anchor of Weekend Update. Che will be hosting the long-running segment across from newcomer Colin Jost, who only took the desk at the beginning of this year, replacing Seth Meyers. Strong, who has been a cast member for two years now, was promoted to Weekend Update c0-anchor last season to help the transition between Seth and Colin. Che is the first African-American cast member to hold the Weekend Update anchor desk. It is also the first time both anchors have been male. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made up the previous dynamic duo, the only other instance of the anchors being the same gender. Michael Che will make his debut on September 27th, with host Chris Pratt.
