Michael Fassbender has revealed he will be a part of the Assassin’s Creed movie, in an interview with The Daily Beast.
When asked about the film, the actor said, “That’s definitely happening. We’re just developing the script at the moment.
“I’d heard of it but had never played the game. I don’t have a video game player…that’s not what they’re called. I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they told me the story behind it, and I thought it was very interesting-the idea of reliving memories.”
Assassin’s Creed is centred on a line of assassins whose bloodline allows them to access the memories of those that came before with the help of a device named Animus.
When Ubisoft first considered adapting the game into a film, they asked their famers which character the movie should focus on, Italian noble Ezio Auditore da Firenze from the 15th century or American Desmond Miles who fled the life of an assassin, only to be sucked back in.
According to Cinemablend, “they picked Miles, as that is who Fassbender is said to play.”
In the interview, Fassbender also spoke about his new film 12 Years a Slave, where he plays Edwin Epps, a brutal slave master in 1841.
When asked about playing such a character, Fassbender said, “I wanted to create someone that was, at times, sympathetic to the audience- despite the cruelty he displays. I wanted the audience to catch glimpses of themselves in Epps, even for a millisecond, and not have the luxury of keeping themselves at an arm’s distance from him. He’s a terrible slave-owner, but also a human being filled with complexity.”
