Breaking Bad‘s Michael Slovis is moving from the helm of one HBO hit to the next. He has signed on to direct the first two episodes of Game Of Thrones‘ fifth season, which premieres next year.

Alex Graves, who directed four episodes of the George R.R. Martin television adaptation this past season, will be taking a hiatus during the fifth. However, he’ll most likely be back for season six.

The showrunners have hinted that season five may not follow the plot of Martin’s books.

“The books are the reason we’re doing this – they’re our road map, and they provide many or most of our destinations. But there are many ways to get to each destination, and some are more appropriate for our show than others,” co-showrunner D.B. Weiss told The Hollywood Reporter.

“We have to make a show that succeeds on its own terms, and sometimes that means veering away from the books,” David Benioff said.

What do you think, Game Of Thrones fans? Have you read the books and, if so, are you intrigued by the showrunners’ willingness to take a new path or bummed? Let us know!
