@KateMcHale42Princess Lacey captivated the nation as senior Michigan State basketball player Adreian Payne’s adoptive little sister. No, there were never official adoption papers, but the two shared a special bond. On a routine hospital visit with his basketball team, Adreian met a girl who would change his life forever. Lacey Holsworth, or Princess Lacy as most call her, was being treated at St. John’s Hospital for neuroblastoma when 6’10" Payne walked in, instantly brightening her day. When everyone else left, Payne stayed around to spend time with the 8-year-old that changed his life forever. Lacey was by far one of his biggest fans. Adreian has dealt with loss many times before, first he lost his mom and then his grandmother, leaving him with few family members to lean on. Enter Lacey and her family. Even when the MSU Spartans were not on official visits to the hospital, Adreian continued to visit his little friend. The two corresponded through texts, phone calls, and social media. Even when Princess Lacey was having a physically bad day Payne’s presence would put an instant smile on her face. When Senior Night for Adreian rolled around, he was escorted by his vivacious sister Lacey. To him, it was a no brainer for Lacey to be involved in such a special part of his life. The Holsworth family and Adreian were not the only ones who could tell their bond was special, head coach Tom Izzo realized how special the two’s relationship was and is equally saddened by the loss, “Princess Lacey has taught us all an incredible lesson about love, strength and toughness. We can all learn from her on how to handle adversity with class and dignity."
