Staff WriterExpect cloud services to play a major role in Microsoft’s future—the technology company has announced that Satya Nadella will be the third CEO. After Steve Ballmer retires at the end of this year, Nadella will take charge, saying in a statement released, “Microsoft is one of those rare companies to have truly revolutionized the world through technology, and I couldn’t be more honored to have been chosen to lead the company. The opportunity ahead for Microsoft is vast, but to seize it, we must focus clearly, move faster and continue to transform. A big part of my job is to accelerate our ability to bring innovative products to our customers more quickly.” Satya Nadella, an Indian immigrant who has spent 22 years with the company, has made major technological ground with cloud services that are the foundation for Office 365, XBOX Live, and Bing. But he realizes that there is work to be done within Microsoft—including gaining relevance in the mobile community. Kevin Spain, a former Microsoft executive, has said, “Microsoft is a really complex business […]You’re never going to find a CEO who is going to do it all.” But Spain has hope, finishing his statement saying that Satya Nadella is both a leader, “…and a great team builder.” Also announced this morning: Bill Gates will be stepping down as chair of the Microsoft board to head a new technology advisor role.
