‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ Reboot Has Found Its Red & Pink Rangers

It’s Morphin’ Time for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and the Red and Pink Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are off to save the world from intergalactic evil-doers! Yup, you got that right: Lionsgate Entertainment and Saban Brands has officially unveiled two of the starring characters in their 2017 reboot of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers!

The film’s producers have recently unveiled the face of the leader of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the Red Ranger who will be played by Dacre Montgomery. Little is known about the up-and-coming actor, though it looks like he will be more than capable of filling out the bright red costume. Here’s hoping he’s got what it takes to lead the team to victory!

Montgomery will be joined by former Disney Channel starlet Naomi Scott, who will be kicking evil-doer ass as the beloved Pink Power Ranger in the 2017 reboot. Scott made her debut on Disney’s Lemonade Mouth, where she showcased her skills as a dancer. We’re guessing that those skills will come in handy for this casting, as the Pink Power Ranger is known to be well-versed in both karate and gymnastics! You’d have to be graceful as a falling feather to channel the pterodactyl Zord!

The Yellow, Black, and Blue Rangers have yet to be revealed for the highly anticipated reboot, though a rumored shortlist circulated online showcasing three actors for the role of the Black Power Ranger. The list implies that producers are looking to cast up-and-coming talents as the main protagonists; however, rumor has it that they are pulling out the big guns for the film’s antagonists! Guess we’ll have to wait and see who else joins the team in the coming weeks!

Lionsgate and Saban announced their partnership on the project earlier this year with an intended release date in 2017. Since then, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot has recruited some big names for behind the scenes work, including X-Men First Class and Thor writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 writer Roberto Orci has accepted the role of executive producer and story developer.

Little is known about the direction the film will take at this point, though it has been rumored that the project will harken back to the earliest (and arguably the best) days of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. There have also been rumors that the project could be likened to modern releases such as The Hunger Games saga, implying a slightly darker world than we are used. No matter what, we’re due for some intergalactic butt-kicking, and it’s going to come with some serious nostalgia in a little over a year now!
