At this point, everyone expects Miley Cyrus to bring the shock factor to award shows, especially those more on the casual side, like the MTV Video Music Awards, or VMAs. This year, was no exception, but the shock that audiences received was totally surprising.

Instead of twerking or performing other outlandish acts for the sake of attention, Cyrus shocked us in another way. As her name was called as the winner of “Video of the Year” for “Wrecking Ball,” Cyrus began walking up to the stage with a mystery man. A few steps in, however, Cyrus stopped, turned and walked back near her seat. The young man she was with continued up to the stage. Who was this person and what did he have to say? He said this:

“My name is Jesse, and I’m accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth who are starving, lost and scared right now. I know this because I am one of these people.”

He went on to tell his story while Cyrus looked on, wiping tears from her eyes. He urged fans to go to Miley Cyrus’ Facebook page and donate to improving shelters for homeless youth and to ultimately ending youth homelessness.

Could Miley finally be using her fame in a positive way? If you would like to donate, you can do it through Facebook or through her Prizeo Campaign.
