Mindy Kaling's Answer To Elle Cover Controversy Is Pretty Black And White

Ben Patton Staff Media Lead Could Mindy Kaling be the latest celebrity to get especially unwanted treatment from a fashion mag? The creator and star of Fox’s The Mindy Project is being honored by Elle magazine in their fourth annual Women of TV issue; and rightfully so. However, when the covers were released, there was a clear difference between Kaling’s cover and the other three covers, which feature Allison Williams (Girls), Zooey Deschanel (New Girl) and Amy Poehler (Parks and Rec).

First of all, she’s the only woman who got a cover who isn’t white; secondly, she’s the only one of the final covers that appears in black and white. Kaling is also the only actress that was cropped to a head shot. The other three covers show the stars in full body format. So was this an intentional move by Elle to minimize Kaling’s size 8 body on the cover? Fashionista Tyler McCall isn’t so sure, “It could be a total coincidence—after all, when the internet got up in arms over Melissa McCarthy's covered-up treatment, both the star and the magazine spoke out to say that McCarthy herself picked out the coat that sparked the controversy," he tells E! Online. While Elle hasn’t made a formal statement, Mindy took to her Twitter to address any backlash from this new controversial move by the mag. “Wishing for more skin on my @ELLEmagazine cover? Chris Messina and I are naked on a brand new #themindyproject tonight, ya pervs!” In a follow up tweet the star addresses it more directly saying, “I love my @ELLEmagazine cover. It made me feel glamorous & cool. And if anyone wants to see more of my body, go on thirteen dates with me.” So there it is folks, straight from the source. Mindy’s cool, so we’re cool, too. http://www.Twitter.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.tumblr.com http://www.SoundCloud.com/PopWrapped http://www.Facebook.com/PopWrapped http://www.Instagram.com/PopWrapped http://www.Pinterest.com/PopWrapped http://www.YouTube.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.wordpress.com http://www.PopWrapped.com
