Ballet dancers are commonly lauded for their grace, beauty, and artistry, but the athleticism of their performances often gets overlooked.
A new ad for Under Armour sportswear featuring American Ballet Theatre soloist Misty Copeland is shifting those perceptions with a focus on Copeland’s highly-trained physique and the powerful physicality of her dance.
As a young girl’s voice reads a rejection letter from a ballet academy Copeland received at thirteen, the video shows slow motion footage of the stunning strength and disciplined precision of Copeland’s moves. The ad ends with the company’s slogan, “I will what I want.”
