Mockingjay Creators Will Depend On Technology For Philip Seymour Hoffman's Unfinished Scenes

Shane Avery

Staff Writer

In the wake of Hollywood losing the great Philip Seymour Hoffman, fans of The Hunger Games trilogy are probably wondering what was going to happen with the scenes featuring Hoffman  that were not finished filming.
Hoffman was cast as Plutarch Heavensbee in the film franchise, and while it was revealed that he had finished MOST of his scenes for Mockingjay, Part 1, the studio explained that he was 7 days shy of finishing Part 2. More importantly, one MAJOR scene was not filmed.
The studio has said that Hoffman's Plutarch will not be recast, and no rewrites to the script will happen. What will happen, is that his scene will be digitally re-created.
CGI technology will be used for the one major scene left to be filmed.
Plutarch was introduced in "Catching Fire" and will be included in the final two installments Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2.
Special effects supervisor Rob Legato said: about the use of CGI: "These days the technology of using someone's likeness is a whole lot easier to do. I won't say you could generate a Philip Seymour Hoffman with all the acting ability, but you could certainly replicate him for a shot or two."
How do you guys feel about Hoffman being digitally re-created for the film? Answer the poll questions below and let us know!
