Mortal Kombat Closer To Getting a Film Reboot

Susan Booth

Staff Writer

The original Mortal Kombat film was awesome! The video games were a lot of fun to play and there was nothing better than kicking your friends asses every chance you got, depending on how good you were at the game of course. Now fans can get ready to experience it all again as there is a plan for a reboot of the movie. However, fans of the Legacy online series please note, this new reboot is supposed to exist in a separate continuity from the show. Director and choreographer Kevin Tancharoen recently spoke to Coming Soon and provided an update on the project. "We're still pushing through on that, the script is in a good place, we're just kind of figuring out the budget and locations, and the whole process is where we're at." Given Tancharoen originally pitched the idea of a film reboot, which eventually evolved into Mortal Kombat: Legacy, it was not surprising that he was asked questions on whether or not this film has any connection to Legacy. He responded saying: "I think everyone's intention is to start fresh because we want Legacy to live on its own possibly for multiple seasons, and when it comes to Mortal Kombat, it's been around 20+ years. We're going to take the mythology and add another layer on it so it can live on for another 20 years, or more! I think it's a unique opportunity to set that ground work." Coming Soon’s full interview with Kevin Tancharoen will be available on their website next week to coincide with the September 26 debut of

Mortal Kombat: Legacy II

on Machinima.
