Mortal Kombat Director Kevin Tancharoen Departs Movie Reboot

Fazleen Dean

Staff Writer

After his success in the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series, Kevin Tancharoen has decided to move on from New Line’s ‘Mortal Combat’ movie. On Friday, October 25th, he tweeted: “After 3 years of Kombat, I've decided to move on to other creative opportunities. I wish everyone involved in the movie big success. Thanks!” Tancharoen’s web series had just followed through on its second season. Fans were bummed to find that he wouldn’t be filming the big screen reboot of the famously praised classic video game as they had hoped. His other directing successes include MGM’s reboot of ‘Fame’ in 2009 and the ‘Glee’ 3D concert movie. New Line disclosed that it was rebooting Mortal Kombat based on Kevin Tancharoen’s short film and web series, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth in 2011. The action-filled movie will definitely, according to Tancharoen, have great potential and success, but we are all hoping the new director will be able to put the same live-action excitement that the departing director would have. At this time, there has been no disclosure of a new director being chosen.
