This October will mark the premiere of an upcoming animated film crafted by the folks down at Fox entitled The Book of Life.

The Book of Life is seemingly unique due to its place in the industry: it’s developed to replicate the style of beautiful, robust Mexican folk art and is taking much of the culture’s traditions along with it.

Featuring the voices of well-liked actors and actresses such as Zoe Saldana, Christina Applegate, and Channing Tatum, it’s almost sure to be a hit with audiences young and old, especially when you consider one incredibly unique extra piece of information rooted in the film’s musical tapestry. The Book of Life’s musical supervisor is Gustavo Santoallava, and his goal is to take popular songs and give them a mariachi makeover.

Amongst the tunes currently announced the be adapted for the film are Mumford & Sons’ “I Will Wait” and Radiohead’s “Creep”. (There’s two bands you never thought you’d read in the same sentence on a news article!) Furthermore, Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling In Love” and Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” have also been confirmed for the film.

Perhaps surprisingly, Radiohead reportedly approves of the film and what Santoallava is trying to achieve with his vision, which director Jorge Gutierrez cites as one of the bigger reasons as per why other artists and firms have signed on to have their music reworked. In an interview with Billboard, Gutierrez said of Radiohead, “I thought at some point they’d be replaced. After we got ‘Creep’, every band said ‘wow you got Radiohead.’ That made it easier.”

The playlist, which also features Biz Markie’s “Just A Friend”, is said to reflect on Gutierrez as a “playlist of his life.”

The Book of Life is currently slated for a theatrical release on October 17, 2014.
