Britney Spears – “Private Show

Last week was a big one for pop princess Britney Spears. The “Baby One More Time” siren announced the impending release of her ninth studio album Glory, made the album available for preorder, released a scintillating music video, and capped things off with new promotional single “Private Show.” After unleashing a plea for some proper loving on the G-Eazy assisted lead single “Make Me,” Britney has taken a turn for the more experimental on the twerk-friendly “Private Show.” The track sees the songstress at her most engaged and playful, as she romps across the bright production. Her voice jumps octaves and delivers a performance unlike anything we’ve heard in recent memory. Whether she’s cooing on the verses, serving some improvised runs towards the end, giggling, or delivering staccato commands to watch her “slide down the pole” Britney Spears hasn’t vibrated with this much energy in years. Ending with a spoken aside provides a bit of a glimpse behind the scenes and reflects on Britney’s staying power in the industry. She’s one who always manages to leave the masses wanting more, and it seems like she’s ready to deliver the more with Glory! Talk about kicking off #MusicMonday with a bang!

Tove Lo – “Cool Girl

“Talking Body” siren Tove Lo is back on the scene with a brooding serving of Swede pop on new single “Cool Girl.” Serving as the lead single from her album tentatively titled Lady Wood, “Cool Girl” reintroduces Tove Lo’s expressive vocals and darkly sensual lyricism over a grinding production. “No, let’s not put a label on it / let’s keep it fun / we don’t put a label on it / so we can run free, yeah” she unflinchingly tells a lover on the pre-chorus. Her declaration of independence is followed by her proclamation that she’s a “cool girl” who won’t be held down by the bounds of a relationship on the chorus. Tove delivers the lyrics with the composure of an ice queen; however, the track’s bridge reveals that her cool visage may be a crumbling facade. This hitmaker may have been burnt in the past, but she still believes in love. Only time will tell if she finds a lasting relationship on Lady Wood.

Ariana Grande feat. Mac Miller – “Into You Remix

Ariana Grande recruited Pittsburg rapper Mac Miller for a dream pop inspired remix on current Dangerous Woman single “Into You.” After kicking off last week with an acoustic rendition of the track, Grande unleashed the much-teased Mac Miller remix to ring in the weekend. Both new versions of the track provide depth to the Max Martin produced club anthem and transform it into something a little more atmospheric. Taking things one step further, the remix adds an ethereal element that makes it all the more magical. Grande delivers her vocals over twinkling synths and whirling bass lines before welcoming Miller on for an effortlessly delivered verse. The beats per minute pick up, as Grande flies away on a passionate aria on the chorus, and suddenly the larger than life anthem returns to the dance floor!

Tayler Buono – “Something About You

Rising hitmaker Tayler Buono continues her electro-kissed pop takeover with new single “Something About You.” After touching down earlier this year with her relatable ode to a maybe relationship on “Technically Single” the Nashville songstress has returned with a striding declaration of love. “Just something about you / holding on your love / never get enough” Buono croons over the sweet production. Whereas “Technically Single” is delivered with a tongue-in-cheek tenacity, there is an earnest sense of purity to her honeyed delivery. Her #MusicMonday debut is lush with endearments, and the vibey track is another promising release from one of our favorite rising talents of the year!

Banks – “Gemini Feed

After kicking off a new era of music with her brazen claims of self-empowerment on “Fuck with Myself,” Banks continues to declare her independence with new promo single “Gemini Feed.” This time around the “Begging for Thread” songstress is speaking directly to a former lover, one who has left her damaged by his demands to smother herself. Listing the many ways in which he demanded that she change herself, the artist makes a daring bid for freedom with the passionate farewell. “And to think you would get me to the altar / like I would follow you around like a dog that needs water / but admit it that you wanted me smaller” she bitterly reflects on the chorus, proclaiming that all her lover had to do to maintain their relationship was accept her. Banks delivers the barbed kiss off over a driving production. Her pain over the relationship is evident, but her strength is all the more commendable.

DJ Snake and Justin Bieber – “Let Me Love You

Looks like Justin Bieber is rapidly becoming #MusicMonday’s feature king! After showing up on our list a few weeks ago alongside M.O and Major Lazer on their late summer anthem “Cold Water,” the Purpose crooner is again lending his vocals to DJ Snake’s “Let Me Love You.” The track is another tropical house infused serving and is easily the most anticipated off Snake’s new album Encore. Over lush synths Bieber makes a plea to his lover, begging her to take him back after a series of mistakes that led to the end of their “something beautiful.” Bieber delivers in spades and is perfectly comfortable atop the airy house production that has become his calling card since topping the charts with “Sorry.” DJ Snake’s production is bright and optimistic, adding a layer of hope to the track. Justin Bieber may be broken hearted by his failed relationship, but he’s dancing his way back. Although it’s nothing incredibly new from the crooner (who always seems to be apologizing for something), “Let Me Love You” is undeniably another gorgeous collab. Now, if only DJ Snake could get Selena Gomez to hop on an official remix, and then we’d have something all the more special. Rumor has it that both of the formerly starcrossed lovers recorded the track, so it’s a possibility albeit an unlikely one. We’ll never stop dreaming…

Jake Miller – “Overnight

Florida born rapper Jake Miller is preparing to showcase his artistic versatility with his melodically driven Overnight EP. After showcasing his hip hop edge and slick flow on previous releases, the 23 year old musician is singing on his upcoming release. His vocal talent is increasingly evident on the upcoming EP’s lead single of the current name. The track is a electronically driven ode to fixing a broken relationship with a night of passion. “They say change takes time / but baby, we can fix it overnight” he croons on the chorus. It’s a concept that could have been maddeningly contrived in the wrong hands; however, Miller delivers the lyrics with a convincing fervor. His feelings are clear, and his passion is engaging. “Overnight” is a commendable effort and a true bop that feels somewhat reminiscent of the work of male heavy hitters the likes of Justin Bieber. Something tells us that Overnight will net the rising talent all the more attention with the media, and that we’ll see quite a few more tracks making #MusicMonday appearances in the coming months!

 Norah Jones – “Carry On

Jazz legend Norah Jones is preparing to return to the scene, and she’s announcing her comeback with the release of her gorgeous new single “Carry On.” The new release is a return to form for Jones, as she delivers a lush and slightly melancholy instrumentation on the single. “I’d never keep you from your destiny / so carry on” she earnestly intones over the live production. The “Come Away With Me” crooner has retained a certain magical quality about her voice that makes the release so deafeningly hers. The pensive track is a refreshing breath of air, and we’re looking forward to seeing what comes from Norah Jones as we move closer to a new album.

Kehlani – “Gangsta

R&B siren Kehlani slithered onto the soundtrack for DC’s Suicide Squad on her emotive and unbound release “Gangsta” and simultaneously provided the perfect lovelorn anthem for the equally unhinged Harley Quinn and Joker. “I’m fucked up, I’m black and blue / I’m built for it, all the abuse” she intones over the raw production, perfectly giving voice to the couple’s dangerous relationship. Kehlani’s performance on the Skylar Grey written track exudes a fragile air and delves into a relationship that is as compelling as it is toxic. Her whispered delivery and the sparse production provide a feeble base for the romantic feelings, allowing them to free fall into the darkness. We haven’t even seen Suicide Squad yet, but we’re pretty sure that this sums things up almost freakishly for the couple…

Grimes – “Medieval Warfare

Producer Grimes is armed with only her hands but deadly nonetheless on her Suicide Squad offering “Medieval Warfare.” The acclaimed producer claims that this is a second track told from the point of view of Harley Quinn, and it’s darkly pulsing production paints a deadly visual for the beloved character. Grimes delivers the unhinged lyrics in a series of whispers as the furiously growling production coalesces and transforms into a beast with it’s own mind. Although the film has been largely panned by the critics, its soundtrack has provided #MusicMonday with quite a few hits to unwrap!

Marc E. Bassy – “Morning

Rising artist Marc E. Bassy delivers a soulful declaration of love on new single “Morning.” After making quite the splash with his tropically infused G-Eazy collaboration “You & Me” the crooner is taking a chance to bear his heart over a simple piano line. “With no makeup on and your eyelash hanging / I would still love you / if you came home late and you kept me waiting / I would still trust you” he earnestly croons as an introduction, before asking if his lover’s feelings were equally earnest. The track features a simple production that makes it all the more heartfelt, and Bassy’s vocals are truly exceptional on the simple lover’s ode. It’s a sweeter, almost jazzy moment that feels right at home this #MusicMonday.

Bloodboy – “Hey Kid

One of the latest artists to emerge from the diverse musical scene in Los Angeles is indie-pop hitmaker Bloodboy, and she delves into the dark battle with addiction on her second single “Hey Kid.” Set to a striding instrumental the songstress struggles to support a loved one who is battling a fierce addiction. “You know I love you, but you’re so high / you know I love you despite those eyes” she heartbreakingly croons on the chorus. Her love may not be enough to save the loved one from their vices; however, Bloodboy makes the ultimate effort to save them. “Hey Kid” is a stunningly fragile ode that unveils the demons of addiction and the poisonous affect that extends beyond the person directly ensnared.

Trapdoor Social – “Sunshine

The boys of Trapdoor Social overcome the heartache of unrequited love with a dose of sunshine on their uplifting new single. The socially conscious rockers dare to bare their hearts on “Sunshine,” exploring the darkness that is associated with loving someone who doesn’t return the feelings. “You’ve gotta fill it up with sunshine” they proclaim on the chorus. Doing that makes it easier to get on with life, instead of being stuck in the past. Their #MusicMonday offering is bold and powerful, and it’s bound to combat any slump from the beginning of the work week!

Slow Sugar – “Hypnotic Love

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/276605489″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /]

Slow Sugar is a fresh new electro-kissed duo to emerge onto the scene with their debut single “Hypnotic Love.” The NYC based pair are making their #MusicMonday debut with their sensual slow burner. Showcasing the sultry vocals of lead vocalist Danielle Harris and the untethered productions of Alex Utay on the track, the pair float across a lush soundscape. Harris delivers her proclamations of love as she loses herself in a magnetic infatuation. It’s a fantastic entry point for the talented pair and promises that many big things are on their way.

Tiffany Sinko – “Choose You

Los Angles based vocalist Tiffany Sinko delivers a stunning tribute to a loved one on her lush lover’s ode “Choose You.” The youthful songstress began pursuing her passion for music at 15 and earlier this year she reemerged with a more mature and self-driven aesthetic on her EP Anchored. The project’s lead single “Choose You” is a beautiful ode to a lover who has provided a bright new beginning for the songstress. “If I had one shot, I’d use it on you / in a world so frail, you are the one that’s true / if I had one breath, I’d breathe it for you” she earnestly sings over whirling synths. It’s a powerful effort from the budding hitmaker and proves that she’s more than capable of delivering a pure pop anthem.

Act As If – “All The Girls

Closing out this week’s #MusicMonday is indie-rockers Act As If with their danceable new anthem “All The Girls.” Their first musical outing since their 2014 LP, the new track sees the rockers back at their most playful.  Blending live instrumentals with the buzz of electronica, Act As If have curated a sound that truly welcomes rockers to the dance floor with fun melodies and earworm worthy hooks. “All The Girls” serves as an introduction to a new era of music from the band, and it’s a welcome addition to their discography.
