My Silent Bravery Talks “Spark Up The Fire”

“…it’s really a song about chemistry and having that spark between two people which helps to fuel the fire.”

Championed by the likes of Billboard Magazine among others, My Silent Bravery – AKA Matthew Wade – has been a staple of the music scene for over a decade and has to-date released seven albums. His songs have been featured in several hugely successful, long-running series including Criminal Minds and fans of MSB will be delighted to hear there’s a new album of impressive tunes coming soon. Having just released his brand new single – the feel-good summer jam “Spark Up The Fire” – the video for which will drop later this month, PopWrapped caught up with Matthew to chat artistic and musical inspirations and what the future holds.

Congrats on the new single “Spark Up The Fire.” Is there a particular story behind it? What’s it about?

Thanks so much! At its simplest, “Spark Up the Fire” is a love song. But at its core, it’s really a song about chemistry and having that spark between two people which helps to fuel the fire so to speak.

You’ve primarily released uplifting pop/rock songs over the years, but seem to revisit the reggae genre from time to time. What is it about reggae that inspires you so much?

I have always loved reggae music. Bob Marley is my all-time favorite artist. There is something about reggae which just puts me in a feel-good mood. It’s a genre that I just feel really comfortable in that seems to translate with my fans.

You worked with Matisyahu for your uplifting reggae tune “To Give.” How did you find the collaborative process?

When working on my album ‘Can’t Quit’, I had this reggae tune “To Give” that I was looking for the right collab. I felt the message in the song was really important. It’s a song about giving back to others and the world at large. I was looking for the right artist to feature on the track, which would also work with the message. My friend Kool Kojak was doing a remix for me while he also happened to be producing Matisayahu’s album at the time. He introduced us and the rest as they say is history. The song went on to win Best Social Action Song at the Independent Music Awards and to date feels like it is one of the most meaningful songs I have written.

You’ve opened for artists like Bryan Adams, Billy Idol, Daughtry, John Waite, The Wailers, Candlebox, and Rusted Root. What were those experiences like for you? Now that the world is slowly returning to some semblance of normal, can we expect any live shows being announced soon?

I love touring. I love connecting with fans in person and performing. I definitely hope to tour more soon but a lot of things usually have to fall in place. I do have a one-off show Sunday Aug 8 at Daryl’s House in Pawling, NY to help me celebrate the release of my new single.

You’ve had your music has been featured on television shows like Criminal Minds, One Tree Hills, MTV’s Real World, American Pickers. What’s it like hearing your songs on TV, and when you write songs, do you keep in mind where they might be featured or what they might be suitable for?

I personally love hearing my songs on tv. It’s really cool when a song gets featured in a program and it turns people on to my music who might not have heard it before. I definitely write the majority of my songs with sync in mind. I think its really important to keep in mind when writing for a better chance for your music to be featured.

Finally then, what’s next for My Silent Bravery?

After “Spark Up the Fire”, I have two more singles dropping this fall before I release my next full-length album called ‘Bigger.’ There will also be music videos for all three songs. It’s a ten-song album that features the songs “Bigger”, “Without Love”, “Spark Up the Fire”, and “Rise Up”, among others. I hope to release the album prior to the holidays this year and tour in support of it.
