After 20 years, silver medalist Nancy Kerrigan is now set to return to the Winter Olympics this February 2014. Last week, NBC announced that the retired figure skater will be a figure skating analyst during NBC’s coverage of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Kerrigan rose to fame in 1991 placing third at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and went on to receive a bronze medal at 1992 Winter Olympics. In 1994, as she was preparing for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, “The Whack Heard Round the World” took place. She was attacked in the right knee by her teammate/opponent Tonya Harding’s husband and bodyguard at the time. At the time Kerrigan had to withdraw from the competition, but she ended up earning a spot on the 1994 Olympic team, alongside Harding. At the 1994 Winter Olympics, Kerrigan took home a silver medal. But it was quite the scandal in the Olympic world. Although Kerrigan retired from competing after her 2nd year at the Winter Olympics, she did go on to do a few other things in the realm of ice skating. Kerrigan is "thrilled to be a part of the Olympics again because it is truly an amazing event." Aside from being a figure skating analyst during the Sochi Winter Olympics, you will be able to catch Kerrigan on an NBC documentary about the 1994 scandal. Throughout the years she has been quiet about the scandal and during a press conference revealed why she’s been so reluctant to share.  She believed that things she would have said "would get twisted and turned because that's happened before.” But she does have trust in veteran sports correspondent Mary Carillo  and producer Margaret Grossi to do her story justice. NBC coverage of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics begins on Feb. 6! http://www.Twitter.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.tumblr.com http://www.SoundCloud.com/PopWrapped http://www.Facebook.com/PopWrapped http://www.Instagram.com/PopWrapped http://www.Pinterest.com/PopWrapped http://www.YouTube.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.wordpress.com http://www.PopWrapped.com
