With a sound that fuses R&B, soul, and dance – thanks largely in part to her influences including the likes of Dua Lipa, Camilla Cabello and Rhianna – and lyrics that address topics and issues so many of us are all too familiar with – such as relationships and heartbreak, NYC artist Nazanin has found herself able to connect with music fans in a deeply personal way since she first arrived on the music scene and her new single “Dangerous”, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere, is a brilliant, empowering anthem.
Asked about the story behind the track, Nazanin says: “Dangerous is an empowering track that I was motivated to create after the ending of a tumultuous relationship; my ex insecurely shattered my confidence and manipulatively belittled my ambitions. While he treated me like a “princess” and had great qualities, he was a bully. He was also older than me so you can imagine the power play at hand. Speaking about bullying, that concept inspired the song too.”
She goes on to add that: “I feel like I’ve been bullied a lot throughout my life; from older female bosses at work – who were threatened by my youth – by female “acquaintances” and “friends” growing up, to older insecure male colleagues with ego complexes. Dangerous consequently stems from my frustrations in the business world where I’d try to get deals done with older male clients, yet they would solely try to sleep with me instead. All they saw was a young female opposed to a smart, ambitious and resourceful professional. These experiences really affected me. I felt like I was being treated differently than how I perceived myself; a powerful force to be reckoned with. “
