Congratulations to Neil Patrick Harris and fiancé David Burtka as the pair are getting married. During an interview with E! News, the How I Met Your Mother star stated “Certainly, we have children and marriage is an appropriate thing to do [as] a part of their well being, so I’m sure it will be inevitable - and awesome”.
The couple have been engaged for five years. However engagement was only publicly announced in 2011, when New York legalised same sex marriage. Neil and David have been together for almost ten years and are the proud parents of fraternal twins Gideon and Harper. Harris mentioned they are still unsure where exactly the upcoming nuptials will take place, “We’re about to move to New York so it’s a tricky situation. I don’t know if it would be an east coast or west coast thing”.
Last week’s Supreme Court rulings that ended California’s Proposition 8 and overturned the Defence of Marriage Act (DOMA) seemed to have had little effect on Harris’ and Burtka’s plans. Harris was pleased but not overly shocked at the news saying “I thought that was inevitable and was going to happen. It’s logical. If you look at public opinion polls, everyone, the majority of people, are very for people that fall in love with each other being able to own that.”
