As networks around the world continue to fight for viewers, Netflix looks ready to out-do them all by 2016. They are set to take over viewer numbers by 2016.

Research results analysed by Wall Street firm FBR Capital Markets have announced that, were Netflix to run as a 24-hour channel, rated via Nielsen figures as the likes of ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox are, then it would enjoy a larger audience than those networks.

It has been argued however that the research results don’t exactly take into account the wide range of programmes which networks offer whereas Netflix is more restricted.

The growing success of Netflix, which charges a fee per month after offering users a free trial, also signals a continuing move away from viewers watching network/organisation based productions, opting instead to go for originals such as Orange Is The New Black. The success of site productions and content such as House Of Cards may also serve as reminders to networks that audiences want more than the typical sitcoms and comedies which so many rely on to fill their schedules.
