Fans of Sense8 are in for a holiday treat! Netflix is releasing a two-hour Christmas special of the sci-fi series on December 23, well ahead of its second season, which will premiere in May. And a new trailer for this event has been released! Thank you Netflix!

Sense8 Christmas Special Trailer

Despite its sci-fi premise and action sequences, at its heart, Sense8 is about people from vastly different backgrounds connecting with each other emotionally.

Of course it’s perfect for Christmas. The weird, family theme is shown in the first half of the trailer, as we see each member of the cluster engaging with their family and friends both inside and outside their heads! One can even mistake it for one of those sappy-feel-good holiday films. But it is not one of those; this is Sense8, and the dark turn is immediately shown, as we see the consequence of what happened at the end of the first season.

Will (Brian J. Smith) is being haunted by the Whispers because he made eye contact. It is the same villain that drove Angelica Turner (Darryl Hannah) to commit suicide in the first episode, after she activated their cluster. Let’s hope he doesn’t go the same way.

Others in the group are also struggling with their own problems. Sun Bak (Donna Bae) is still in prison, Wolfgang Bogdanow (Max Riemelt) has gotten intertwined with what we assume are members of the criminal underground once again, while Lito (Miguel Ángel Silvestre) has to face being publicly outed and throwing his lucrative career as an action telenovela star into turmoil.

I guess the holidays may not be kind to our favorite cluster. Wolfgang even greets everyone sarcastically in the end of the trailer with “Happy f*** New Year!” But for the important question, though: will we be getting another special group sex scene again?
