Think back to when you were in elementary school. You would be sitting in your desk, chewing your gum and doodling on your pocket folder, and all of a sudden, the debate about the existence of unicorns would come up.
Many would laugh at those who claimed they were real, and others would cry tears and defend the existence of the mythical animals.
Well, those believers are the ones laughing now, due to the fact that a new fossil discovery reveals that unicorns in fact once existed.
According to a study in the American Journal of Applied Sciences, the Siberian unicorn was a type of unicorn that roamed the Earth around 29,000 years ago.
Originally, scientists concluded that this creature, which goes by the scientific name Elasmotherium sibricum, must have lived at least 350,000 years ago.
However, scientists discovered a fossilized skull in Kazakhstan, one that reveals that the unicorn actually roamed not too long ago. This will reveal how the unicorn-like animal survived that long, and more about the species.
Despite the impressive horn and the unicorn-like hype, it is more so a rhino than an actual horse-like unicorn, according to a Science Alert article. The Siberian unicorn was two meters tall, four meters long and four tons.
It was more "wooly mammoth-sized" than horse-sized, which is pretty different from a unicorn we imagine in our minds from cartoons.
None the less, it is a four-legged animal that has a horn on its head and ran around the Earth. And only about 29,000 years ago as well.
The fact that unicorns exist is actually amazing, and eve one once doubled it's existence, but it once roamed the Earth.
This discovery is a huge step forward, and it just goes to show that science can go a long way. It can even prove the existence of a mythical creature!
