is back and hopefully the title of the episode reflects real life and the "Summer of Weddings" will be officially over.
The episode began with Schmidt calling a house meeting to give a pep talk about ending the summer of sex with a bang...literally. "We are hooking up tonight—all five of us," Schmidt continues to rally the group by explaining how important this wedding is. "This is the last wedding of summer, which means it's the last chance. Nobody meets anybody in fall or winter. What, are you gonna gamble on the unknown contents of a bulky sweater? Do you know how important this is?! Winter. Is coming."
Feeling inspired Jess comes up with a very "ummm...what?" metaphor that involves all five roommates tearing their way through the reception. It involves a fist and that is where I will leave you and let your imagination come in.
At the wedding, we see that Coach has had a busy summer with photographers, waitresses, and even a "mature" woman. His summer has been so busy that he doesn't remember some of them and they aren't happy about it. CeCe makes an appearance and unbeknownst to Schmidt, she is no longer dating Aussie hottie Buster. Once he does find out, it ruins any plan Schmidt had of ending the summer with a hookup. This news is a relief to Nick, who has been dodging having a ménage a quatre with Schmidt and two bridesmaids. Winston has spent the entire reception hooking up with some ice packs because he is so sore from the police academy.
With 4 out of 5 no longer able to end their summer as planned. That leaves Jess, who has her eyes on best man Ted (Veep's Reid Scott). However, Jess gets a little competition from Kat (played by Jessica Biel) has also discovered the Ted is the only eligible bachelor at the reception. Kat isn't shy about letting Jess know how much of a catch she is. "Here are the facts: I'm technically a genius, I have a photographic memory, and I lost my virginity to Malcolm Gladwell," she continues to let Jess know that she watches half an hour of porn each night to stay up to date on current events.
Winston tells Jess to basically follow Ted around wherever he goes. This plan leads to Jess following Ted into the bathroom and after a very awkward moment she decides to hide in the bathroom stall. Nick eventually finds her there telling her, "Just be yourself, and if he's not into Jessica Day, there's something wrong with him." With a new attitude, Jess says that the sex fist has now become a sex finger.
Serious side eye at these sex metaphors, tonight.
Jess marches up to Ted to tell him just how adorable she is and right when we think she has won him over with her quirkiness Kat shows him a naked picture of herself. Has she no shame? Ted can't decide who he actually wants and Kat leaves with the wedding officiant.
Last season wasn't the greatest, but if the season 4 premiere is any indicator of what we can expect for the rest of the season than be prepared for some laughs because this episode offered everything that made us fall in love with the show in the first place.
