A new promotional poster for the second installment of the Percy Jackson movies has been released. The poster shows the three heroes - Logan Lerman as Percy, Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth, and Brandon T Jackson as Grover - looking all stoic and heroic in front of a backdrop of, you guessed it, monsters.

The trio of heroes must once again band together to prevent their former friend and campmate Luke, played by Jake Abel, from infiltrating their demi-god sanctuary, Camp Halfblood.

Of course this means that these teenagers must go on an absurdly dangerous mission to the Bermuda Triangle (which for Gods and half bloods is referred to as the “Sea of Monsters”) to retrieve the Golden Fleece - their only hope for survival. They are aided by Luke’s father, Hermes, brilliantly portrayed by Nathan Fillion.

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid director, Thor Freudenthal, has replaced Chris Columbus as director for the sequel to the first film that was released in 2010.

New additions to the cast include Douglas Smith, Leven Rambin, Missi Pyle, Community’s Yvette Nicole Brown, and the fantastic Stanley Tucci.

As a lover of all of Rick Riordan’s work, and especially the Percy Jackson novels, I sincerely hope that this movie will prove better than the first. The first was a mish-mash of the novel’s themes and only touched briefly on the most important parts; which I’m assuming was due to time constraints and an attempt to make it more “Hollywood.” Here’s hoping that this second chance at success will stay true to the root of the story, which is why the books were such a smash in the first place. If these movies were done right, I don’t see any reason why they couldn’t be just as popular and successful as my beloved Harry Potter franchise. The books truly are THAT good.
