The New Zealand-born triple talent Jane Campion has been revealed as Cannes Film Festival jury president. The director, producer, and screenwriter will be succeeding Steven Spielberg in the role when the event takes place from May 14 to 25, reports DigitalSpy. Campion told DigitalSpy, that since she first had her short film's in Cannes in 1986 she has seen the festival grow and expand, causing her admiration for the film festival to grow larger. She said,  "It is a mythical and exciting festival where amazing things can happen, actors are discovered, films are financed, careers are made, I know this because that is what happened to me!” She went on to recognize the film festival for how it manages to bring together the stars, throw parties, and celebrate the industries glamour all while “maintaining the festival's seriousness about the art and excellence of new world cinema." In 2009 Campion released Bright Star which was featured in Cannes all the while she did double duty as co-writer and co-director of Top of the Lake, last year’s six TV Drama. Campion said that she “can’t wait” to join the Cannes Film Festival as a president.  In 1993, the to-be-president’s film The Piano earned her the Palme d'or. The film also earned her an Oscar for Best Screenplay. Added to her impressive resume is her Palme d’Or award for Short Film for her film Peel in 1986. "I am truly honored to join with the Cannes Film Festival as president of the In Competition features for 2014. In fact, I can't wait." Thierry Frémaux, Cannes director extended pride that Campion has accepted their invitation to be president, and credited her as a director who “perfectly embod[ies] the idea that you can make films as an artist and yet still appeal to a worldwide public.” He said the festival is “confident that her exacting approach will be mirrored by her jury." http://www.Twitter.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.tumblr.com http://www.SoundCloud.com/PopWrapped http://www.Facebook.com/PopWrapped http://www.Instagram.com/PopWrapped http://www.Pinterest.com/PopWrapped http://www.YouTube.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.wordpress.com http://www.PopWrapped.com
