Hailing from Sydney, Australia, rising talent Nick de la Hoyde is doing his best to break down genre-based walls with his musical releases.

The 21-year-old singer, songwriter, and rapper discovered his passion for the craft during an extended stay in Barcelona, Spain at fifteen years old.  While pursuing a career as a football player in the city, he found himself enchanted by the process of creating music.  He started by writing lyrics to instrumental tracks or reimagining lyrics to his favorite songs.  The process allowed Nick de la Hoyde to find a creative outlet to express his feelings, and he began to create his own original material.

With varied musical taste, de la Hoyde strove to obliterate genres with his content. Incorporating elements of hip-hop, rap, alternative rock, pop, soul, R&B, and spoken word poetry to create one honest piece may seem like a bit of a chore, but the result is an almost universally-appreciated catalog of music.  After working on his craft and building a devoted group of followers, Nick de la Hoyde has finally released his debut EP Passions, and the result is worth the process!

Passion's lead single, "The Longest Way," features a very current and addictive alt-pop production that sees the musician reflecting on his journey.  De la Hoyde raps about the peace he has found as a musician and the many benefits of expressing himself by putting a pen to paper.  "I have it / I won't lose" he states confidently on the track, and we can't help but believe him!  It's a phenomenal introduction to the Passion project, and it effortlessly showcases the musician's earnest and honest performance style.

Working towards a goal is a common theme on Passion, one that Nick de la Hoyde revisits on several cuts, including "Aces."  On the track, the talented musician sings about moving on from a broken heart over a striding instrumental.

The album's title track surges with power as de la Hoyde provides a moving rap about pursuing his passions.   "And he's gone in the dark / and he's gone in the day," he sings on an extended bridge about the hard work required to achieve his goals; however, he vows that he is holding on.

Things take a turn for the romantic as we move on to Passion's second single "By My Side," another mid-tempo romantic hip-hop infused pop gem.  "It's you that makes me feel alright" the Aussie rapper croons over the bright production.  The final result is a sweetly intimate release that is bound to leave you swooning.

"Where's the Party At" features a moody and hard-hitting production as de la Hoyde spits some passionate verses over a racing instrumental emphasized by some heavy bass undertones.  A rocking guitar bridge adds some creative rock crossover to a powerful track.

Passion closes out with a funky rock-infused cut titled "No Consolation," which features collaboration with former tour mates the Monks of Mellonwah.  On the track, the guys rap and sing about holding their heads up before breaking into a more melodic, soulful chorus.

Something that the release has in spades is clearly a lot of passion. This is (obviously) evident from the EP's title, but it's increasingly evident as you listen to de la Hoyde's soulful style.  This is an artist who has put work into honing his talents, and he is now taking a chance to confidently show us what he is capable of.

Overall, Passion is an impressively strong debut for the heartfelt musician.  As a multi-talented artist, Nick de la Hoyde seems to effortlessly showcase all of his strengths on Passion.  He has struck upon the perfect balance between rapping and singing on his tracks, something that many hip-hop/pop crossover artists find almost impossible.  His lyricism showcases an open, honest style that feels incredibly honest and thoroughly relatable.

Passion is custom tailored to fit within a modern musical soundscape; however, Nick de la Hoyde's genre-hopping aesthetic offers a timeless feel to the EP.  This is the type of music that you'll find yourself coming back to for more for years to come! Talk about a solid debut!
