Nicole Scherzinger is preparing for the release of her upcoming, sophomore studio album, Big Fat Lie, but only in the United Kingdom for the time being. The songstress is taking the time to launch it properly in the United States first, with a release planned for early next year. Recently, the first Stateside single, “Run”, officially came out.

In the rest of the world, the former Pussycat Dolls frontwoman’s second solo effort was preceded by the upbeat lead single “Your Love” and the underwhelming midtempo “On The Rocks”. However, the United States is a totally different market and she chose to launch Big Fat Lie there with “Run”, which is actually a ballad. The Felix Snow-produced cut kicks off with theatrical violin strings, which only lead to its soft, piano-driven production and accompany the keys throughout. It’s an emotional song and finds the songstress at her most vulnerable. She sounds fantastic on it, as the power ballad gives her the opportunity to show off her amazing vocal range.

The accompanying music video was shot in London, back on September 26. As it seems, Nicole Scherzinger plans to also release “Run” as her third international single, with a different cover art revealed for the rest of the world. Check it out here.

On the one hand, releasing a ballad as a lead single is a pretty risky move. No doubt Nicole pulls it off perfectly and does the song justice, but it’s not exactly what the audience is looking for at this point. On the other hand, several artists, including Miley Cyrus, John Legend, and Sam Smith have managed to get themselves smashing hits with slow tracks, so anything goes.

“Run” is now available on iTunes and is scheduled to impact US radio stations on October 6. Give it a listen below.
