Sam Maggs

Staff Writer

The Syfy Channel is remaking 12 Monkeys for TV, and they’ve just cast their first two stars. Based on the 1995 Terry Gilliam film, the original focuses on a man from a post-apocalyptic world who travels back in time to stop the stream of a deadly virus which all but eliminates the human race.

Aaron Standford (Nikita) will play Cole (originally played by Bruce Willis), the man who travels back to the present day to stop the horrific future. Amanda Schull (Suits, Pretty Little Liars) will take on the role of Cassandra Railly (presumably similar to Madeline Stowe’s character Kathryn Railly in the film), a doctor in the present day who gets caught up in Cole’s mission to save the world.

Natalie Chaidez, who has worked on In Plain Sight, V, and Heroes is signed on as Executive Producer and Showrunner, while Jeffrey Reiner (Helix, Friday Night Lights, Caprica) will direct the pilot and co-EP. The pilot was written by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett (Terra Nova, Nikita).

Production on the 12 Monkeys pilot is slated to being in December in Detroit.
