Nintendo direct gives fans updates on what’s in store, but leaves some wanting more

What We Know

For many gamers, one of their first experiences with a game console was brought to them by Nintendo. The first successful console came out in 1983, so Nintendo has been a household name in the gaming world for 5 decades. This means that many of your gamer friends started out on a Nintendo system, seeing as the Sony Playstation 1 didn’t come out until 1994.

Whether it was the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System), or the N64, fans love Nintendo so much it’s become a cultural phenomenon. Even if you don’t participate in gamer culture, you probably know who Mario and his whole crew are.

Let’s hope going Hollywood doesn’t go to Mario’s head.

Speaking of Mario, he’s getting his own movie and he’s getting the all-star treatment from an all-star cast. Mario will be voiced by Chris Pratt. Other voice actors involved include Keegan Michael-Key, Seth Rogan, and Charlie Day. The movie is set to hit theaters Dec. 21, 2022.

Nintendo Direct made some announcements that included new games being revealed like Splatoon 3, and Bayonetta 3. Kirby is also getting another platformer for Switch.

Disco Elysium will be making its debut on Nintendo Switch. Originally a PC role-playing game with a riveting story line, it’s sure to be a big hit for Switch players.

What are you waiting for? The Final Cut beckons you.

Nintendo Switch Online launched in September 2018, and there’s an update there as well. A new plan available to those who subscribe will offer players the chance to play a collection of N64 games will be available to play. They are available for local play or online. Sega Genesis is also going to have some games available too. Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will be available in late October.

What We’re Waiting On

Animal Crossing fans were left in the dark when it comes to content updates, but it looks like Animal Crossing will be getting the TLC fans are looking for; they just have to wait until the next livestream event in October to see what will be there.

With all the different games becoming available on Nintendo Switch Online, it only makes sense that Nintendo will allow Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to purchase a retro N64 and Sega Genesis controller. No news is available on when they will be available, but it’s expected to be at the October update as well. Both are priced at $49.99.

A large announcement that many have been waiting for, will have to wait a little longer. The final fighter to make their appearance in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate will be announced October 5.

So while there were many updates made, Nintendo fans are still left drooling for October to see what’s in store on many other fronts. For the full list of updates from September 23, click here.
