Noomi Rapace to Star As Seven Characters Sci-Fi Drama What Happened to Monday?

Noomi Rapace has just been chosen to star as the lead role in the indie sci-fi drama ‘What Happened to Monday’ by Tommy Wirkola, the writer-director of Dead Snow and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Rapace is to play, as following a script by Max Boktin, the multiple roles of septuplet sisters who struggle to stay hidden in an overpopulated world where a one-child policy outlaws siblings. The seven must overcome their own differences and avoid government execution in order to solve the disappearance of one of their own.

Producer, Raffaella De Laurentiis, is producing through Rafaella Productions along with Vendome’s Philippe Rousselet, who is also financing the upcoming flick.

The seven character role was originally written for a male actor, but after Wirkola met with Rapace, the script was rewritten for a female.

Wirkola commented: “Although the role was originally written for a male, I was struck by the complexities of having an actor portray seven characters and immediately knew Noomi was the ideal actor — male or female — to bring them to life.”

Any of this sound familiar? That’s because the same concept was also used in popular BBC show Orphan Black, however this up-and-coming sci-fi will definitely have some serious differences; well at least I’d hope so.
