What with all the pop-rock heavy ditties that flood the airwaves on a regular basis, Norwegian producer and vocalist Lars Myrvoll AKA The Island Band is a much needed breath of fresh air.
His latest track "Swimming", which he recorded with help from members of other Norwegian bands including Sheriffs of Nothingness,
features rising star Maria Due and, by combining all the elements of instrumentation, vocals and creativity, it makes for a relaxing, inspiring listen.
Myrvoll and Due sound as if they’ve been recording together for years, so slick are their harmonies as they play off one another. There’s also a beautiful simplicity in the lyrics, which Due perfoms as if she’s dreaming, so soft and emotive is her delivery. In contrast, Myrvoll brings with him a powerfully melodic chorus that’s hard to resist singing (and swaying) along to – it shouldn’t work like it does, but when combined with an underlying percussive instrumentation, it’s stunning.
Summer may well be gone in reality, but with this playing from your speakers or through your headphones, you can hold on to it for that little bit longer.
