Federal contractors will no longer have the explicit power to discriminate against LGBTQ applicants, even if they maintain religious reservations against them. In a bold move by the White House on Monday, the Obama Administration officially announced two executive orders banning employers relying on federal funds from discriminating against employees and potential employees based on a variety of traits. These now include race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity, and sexual orientation! While it is just a "band-aid solution" set over Congress' not passing the much broader-scaled Employee Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), it is a step in the right direction towards LGBTQ acceptance in the workplace. Employers are not expected to hire LGBTQ applicants, but they are expected to treat all people with dignity and respect as a true business professional would endeavor to do. Thoughts? Comments?
