Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have been in the public eye since they were toddlers on hit sitcom Full House back in the day. In the past few years, the twins have given up acting and are mostly focused on their fashion label, the both commercially and critically successful The Row. However, the twins’ Dualstar Entertainment Group, which is the umbrella group for all the Olsen’s companies is facing legal action due to apparent mistreatment of interns.
The Olsen company is being sued for apparently not paying 40 interns, as well as horrifically demanding treatment. The lead plaintiff, is a former intern called Shahista Lalan, who claims that she was working day and night, doing the job of three interns and even once collapsing from dehydration. She states that she saw other interns crying whilst working. The interns were not paid, according to Lalan, either though they were working fifty-hour weeks.
Dualstar officials have since commented on the issue, stating that the claims were “groundless”. Annett Wolf, a spokeswoman for the company said “once the true facts of the case are revealed, the case will be dismissed in its entirety”.
Lalan, since leaving her internship, has started her own fashion label.
