One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer performed to 55,000 fans in Philadelphia in Wednesday night (August 13) at the NFL Philadelphia Eagles stadium.
5 Seconds of Summer started out with a new song from their first album called "18". The four Australians then rocked out to two of their older songs from their first EP, "Out of My Limit" and "Heartbreak Girl". The boys each took turns telling the multitude of fans how beautiful they were and how much they loved Philadelphia.
Their next song was another hit from their album, "Don't Stop", which then gave way to a cover song of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream". The guys paused and they had the stadium vote by screams to see who made the best Philly Cheesesteaks in the area.
The rest of their set were songs off their new album. They quieted things down with "Heartache on the Big Screen", "Amnesia", and "Beside You". They rocked out the end of their performance with their cover of "What I Like About You" and original songs "Good Girls" and "She Looks So Perfect".
Fans certainly weren't bored before One Direction came on. The whole stadium at one point was singing and dancing to the Macarena. Watching 55,000 people do the Macarena is a sight to behold.
As the stadium lights darkened, the 5 One Direction boys were revealed standing at the top of their red, black, and white tiered stage, the stadium erupted into blood-curdling screams. Fireworks went off at the back of the stage, and the guys started singing "Midnight Memories".
Their next songs were "Little Black Dress","Kiss You", "Why Don't We Go There", and "Rock Me". Niall Horan played guitar for several of the songs, while the other guys danced and bounded around the stage.
They slowed things down when Niall explained how he wrote the next song, "Don't Forget Where You Belong", with the British band McFly and how he wrote it for the fans; he thanked them for all the opportunities they've given him and the rest of the band members.
They got the crowd going again with "Live While We're Young" and "C'Mon C'Mon". Most of the songs they performed were off of their latest album Midnight Memories, but they did sing several of the most popular songs from previous albums.
The fans grew slightly quieter during Zayn Malik's solo in "Right Now" as his voice carried throughout the stadium.
The crowd was jumping and dancing with the boys during the upbeat "Through the Dark" and "Happily". The lights on the stage dimmed and Niall grabbed his guitar again, as all the guys sat in the middle of the catwalk and sang "Little Things". The stage was lit up in a soft flow of phone flashes and glow sticks. After the song finished, Liam Payne said that he thought that Philly has been the best crowd so far to sing "Little Things." He then asked their help singing the next song, "Moments", which then quickly transitioned into "Strong".
The crowd started screaming louder with excitement as the first few notes of "Better than Words" were played. The song has been a fan favorite on this tour because of a dance move that Niall does during his solo.
Harry Styles took a pause between songs when he saw a fan named Paige holding up a sign that said it was her birthday. The band and the entire stadium then sang Happy Birthday to her. During their next song, "Alive", One Direction moved to the end of their catwalk where a platform appeared that raised them up into the air. On the platform they sang "One Thing" and "Diana."
The boys took a pause in the performance to introduce their band members Jon, Josh, Sandy, and Dan. Liam put on a purple hat that a fan threw onto stage, and the keyboardist started to play Michael Jackson's "The Way You Make Me Feel"; Liam sang and danced to the first verse and chorus.
Harry, Niall, Liam, Louis, and Zayn then sang the Fresh Prince of Bel Air rap and the whole stadium erupted in high-pitched screams again.
The 1D boys then sang their most popular song "What Makes You Beautiful", and at the end they disappeared under the stage. There was a slight intermission and wardrobe change and then the boys came back out on stage to sing "You and I", and then moved onto "Story of My Life." Liam and Harry came to the end of the catwalk to say that they only had two songs left and that they hoped everyone had fun.
Harry then saw a girl in a wedding dress and he said that he didn't want that outfit to go to waste--and he proposed to her on stage. They finished up their concert with "Little White Lies" and a round of fireworks during "Best Song Ever".
The concert was amazing, and the boys were vocally superb. The crowd screamed, sang, and swooned. 55,000 people went home with lost voices, ringing ears, and happy hearts.
