It’s no secret that One Direction is still charming the world as they did the first time that they stepped onto the X Factor stage, but recent numbers illuminating just how popular the Brit boy band was were still absolutely astounding.
Looks like Harry, Zayn, Niall, Liam, and Louis have something tremendous to celebrate, as according to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), their band has secured its name in history as delivering the best-selling album of 2013. Their third consecutive full-length album, Midnight Memories, sold a whopping 4 million copies in its first week!
The boys narrowly beat out Eminem, who made a comeback in a big way last year with The Marshall Mathers LP 2 and continue a six-year-long streak of British artists topping the charts. They join Coldplay and Adele, who’ve both won the honor twice, as well as Amy Winehouse and Susan Boyle as Brits who’ve been #1 best-sellers for the year in recent times. Take into consideration acts like Mumford & Sons, Ed Sheeran, and Sam Smith, and it’s totally obvious that these UK powerhouses are nowhere near done taking over the charts. Perhaps One Direction could even go for a second honor in the near future!
ET Canada remarked that perhaps Eminem and 1D could get together for pizza in celebration of how successful they are. We say, sure thing! Just keep the boys away from mom’s spaghetti.
