One Direction’s Free Single Breaks Download Record

Not long after One Direction announced their newest single, Fireproof, from their new album, when iTunes experienced its largest amount of single downloads!

It has not been that long since One Direction announced their fourth studio album, FOUR, and dropped a free promotional single, “Fireproof,” as a first taste for their fans. Well, the era has just begun and the boys are already breaking records! That’s what you would call a strong start, am I right?

“Fireproof” was available for free, but the fans had the chance to download it only for one day, last Monday. However, that did not stop them from downloading it 1,089,278 times and making it the most downloaded free track in history! Surely the surprise announcement and release helped create hype around the free tune. A whole lot of downloads was a sure thing, but the boys’ fanbase just took it to a whole new level with this one! If anything, there is no stopping these band-mates from breaking even more records!

The song itself serves as the first promo single off the upcoming studio album, as well as a preview of what is to come. The band’s Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne wrote the tune, along with regular collaborators, John Ryan, Jamie Scott, and Julian Bunetta.

FOUR is expected to arrive in stores on November 17. It has already reached #1 on iTunes in 67 countries from pre-orders alone.
