A new online petition has launched to urge the UK government to accept refugees fleeing persecution and terror -- but this one has a catch. This particular petition suggests that the UK would have room for 50,000 refugees if they only got rid of Sun writer and professional antagonist Katie Hopkins.
The change.org petition received more than 20,000 signatures in only a day. As of now (6 September), it is only 673 signatures away from the goal of 50,000. The petition reads, in part:
The UK however has currently not got the space for refugees, no this is not because we are full it is because Katie Hopkins massive head takes it all up, so I propose we swap Hopkins and send her to Syria [...]
Hopkins has previously made the news on the refugee crisis when she penned an article entitled, "Rescue Boats? I'd use gunships to stop migrants". She was the subject of another change.org petition at that time, calling for The Sun to remove her from their list of contributors.
Hopkins appears to take the petition in stride, even tweeting it to her followers on her personal Twitter account.
Petitions are great.1 click & you're like, literally, clicking your mouse. Once. That's empowerment Right there!Boom https://t.co/KAfDqRdnaG

The petition isn't all fun and games. After it makes a target of Hopkins, the petition gives a list of worthy places to send donations to help with the refugee crisis, including Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières, Oxfam and Save The Children. It also links to the official governmental petition to do more to help the refugees.
