The Coen brothers’ latest drama Inside Llewyn Davis isn’t due for full release in the U.S. until later this month on December 20th, but this new clip can definitely help us get through the wait.
For those lucky viewers who saw the first screening of the film at the Cannes Film Festival back in May and the U.S. screening at the New York Film Festival, this clip has been said to be the most memorable musical performance. I haven’t seen the film yet, but I believe those viewers so far!
The clip shows Llewyn (Oscar Isaac), Jim (Justin Timberlake) and Al (Adam Driver) in the studio recording “Please Mr. Kennedy”. There seems to be a bit of creative differences between them as Llewn asks Jim who wrote the song. “I’m happy for the gig, but who wrote this?” Clearly he isn’t impressed, but the show must go on as he remembers he’s just there to provide back-up vocals.
My favorite part of the clip is Girls’ Adam Driver’s performance. He provides a countdown as the recording begins and adds a few adlibs including some “uh ohs” and “outer space”. It made the performance if you ask me and they all looked like they had a fun time.
Inside Llewyn Davis follows a young struggling musician in the Greenwich Village folk scene in the 1960s. The film also stars Carey Mulligan, John Goodman and Garrett Hedlund. Check out the “Please Mr. Kennedy” performance below and you can also watch the first trailer for the film as well.
