Yang, Ross and Hunt are holding a press conference when the episode begins, updating the media on the successful baby surgery. Well... Christina is reluctant to call it a success just yet, she’d rather admit there are still risks but they are “cautiously optimistic” about the outcome. Shane on the other hand announces it’s a “home run”. Meredith stands in the back of the conference looking anything but happy for her former bestie. Christina looks hurt as she spots Mer... Is this how it’s gonna go? Is Christina going to become a hot shot legend and leave the hum drum of Seattle behind when she outgrows it? Webber is back to work operating today, and it looks as though Bailey is back on track too as he gives her a pat on the back and they exchange smiles. Ben also reminds them that it’s Kepner’s wedding today (woot). Christina is not happy with Shane because she’s not comfortable with him speaking for her but Owen shuts her down, claiming that “Ross said what needed to be said in there”. I beg to differ, Dr Hunt. Privately, Christina tells Ross she’s worried he might be burning himself out with his aggressive approach to work of late but he vehemently refutes this notion with several, “I’m fine[s]!” Oh dear... Callie and Derek are busy geeking out over some scans as they hurriedly agree to attend Kepner’s wedding when approached by Owen. Jo, Leah and Stephanie also are not thrilled about attending... Leah feels it’d be too hard to see Arizona looking stunning when she’s still trying to get over their abrupt break-up. Though, Jo and Steph struggle to see how they were even together in the first place. Join the queue gals... Owen tells them they all have to attend. Arizona asks Alex how his dad is doing, to which he replies: “Don’t really know, don’t really care.” Then there’s some angry sounding car noise and yelling so the pair rush to see what’s going on outside. Turns out it’s a guy carrying an unconscious kid in his pick-up truck - apparently the kid fell under the wheels of a tractor while driving. Something seems off as the guy didn’t wait for an ambulance to arrive after he passed out. Arizona looks anxious as she tells the dude to wait outside and taps Cody (the kid) on the knee with one of those lil hammer thingys. Meredith becomes even more ticked off when a photographer comes in to photograph the printer for articles about Christina’s surgery - even though the printer will be printing Mer’s work in all the photos. “That’s okay, no-one would know,” Owen insists. Though Christina is eager for the photographer to come back when the printer’s empty, Meredith tells them to carry on. Alex and Arizona take Cody for some x-rays and stuff. They think the dad may have paralysed his own kid by driving him to the hospital himself instead of waiting for the ambulance. Oops. Arizona also questions Alex about why he doesn’t seem very curious about his long-lost-father. A pretty vexed April Kepner strides out from one of the elevators - hair curlers an’ all - to hunt down her bridesmaids.

She bumps into Jackson, who (supportive as ever) tells her she looks like a train wreck... “But I can see where it’s going!” She asks him if he’s coming to the wedding. He asks her if she wants him to come to the wedding. She says, “Of course!” So he tells her that he will definitely be there. No Japril hug though - damn hair curlers. Murphy’s on Bailey’s service today and they are operating on a man who’s had over 300 surgeries so far - he has to have growths zapped off every 8-10 days. Rough. Bailey thinks she can create a personalised drug that will prevent more growths and therefore prevent the guy having to have more surgery. This bums out Leah (who has apparently been waiting for Bailey to get back into the OR, who knew?) until Bailey tells her she can fly solo on this (hopefully) last growth zapping op. Kepner steals Christina from more photographers. One down, two to go!

Meanwhile, Derek has had to drag baby Bailey to a meeting with some brain mapping execs who want him to agree to consult for them or something. They have a fancy video. They also offer him a crapload of money. Derek is not amused. Alex checks in on his dad and winds up giving him a piece of his mind when Jimmy starts throwing himself a pity party.

April tracks down Meredith who also thinks she’s “making a break for it”. LOL.

Kepner drags her into an empty room where some seamstresses are set up and fitting Christina into a dress. “You guys are supposed to be doing this for me!” April is not happy with her useless bridesmaids. I love April this season, she’s turned into such a kook! Meredith and Christina have an awkward conversation while being fitted... Meredith notes that Christina seemed uncomfortable during the press conference, Christina explains that she’s not entirely sure why her surgery was a success when she thought the conduit had failed, Meredith calls her arrogant so Christina tells her to “go to hell”. Nice to see Yang finally standing up for herself! Mer needs to go sort herself out and stop focussing on what other people are doing. Urghhh super cheesy moment alert when Derek tells the suits they need to “stop looking at the planet and start looking at the universe.” As if Derek wasn’t annoying enough we’re supposed to see him as this abstract genius now? Nope. I ain’t buying it, sorry Shonda. During surgery, Bailey tells Murphy she should definitely stand up for herself but make sure she’s in the right when she does so. “That is so incredibly true!” Cut to Christina and Meredith mid-bicker-sesh... Meredith claims that Christina said she was a terrible doctor. Christina: “I never said that! But you said that I am a terrible person! Over and over! Because I don’t agree with you? Because I’m committed to my work? Because I don’t want a baby? When did I become such a monster to you?”

Shane bursts in to tell her she’s being considered for a Harper-Avery Award. Jackson and Steph are operating on a man who has a very small chance of losing the ability to talk (and has been telling his wife everything he might ever want to tell her just in case... so we all know he will probably lose the ability to talk). Jackson tells Steph something that Mark Sloan once told him; that if you love somebody you should “say it loud and go from there” regardless of the consequences.

April and Matthew bump into each other in the hospital which is SUPER back luck according to April, though Matthew tries to convince her otherwise. Meanwhile, Alex has to break the news to Cody’s dad that he most likely paralysed his own son. Jackson’s surgery went well but just as he’s filling the wife in on the details, his patient starts having a stroke. Meredith and Christina are still fighting. Meredith: “How long have you been sleeping with Shane? Christina: “That is none of your business!" Meredith: “You don’t have to justify it to me... He’s just hooking up with the best teacher to make sure he can get everything he can. It’s what you did all through medical school and all through intern year. Congratulations, you’ve become the thing you worshipped.” Christina: “And you’ve become the thing we laughed at.” Oh snap!  Alex revisits Jimmy to tell him he’s actually glad he left because if he’d stayed, Alex may never have become a doctor and may have become even more screwed up than he already is. Alex wishes him good luck and shakes his hand, calmly insisting he wants nothing more to do with him. Derek confirms that Jackson’s patient just suffered a massive post-surgical stroke. There’s little hope for rehabilitation. He’s basically in a vegetative state. His wife starts singing their song to him but he’s totally unresponsive. Moved by the whole thing, Steph almost says “I love you” to Jackson but gets stuck on the “L” and changes the subject. Murphy agrees to cover Jo’s shift before realising she’s already exceeded her maximum of 80 hours for the week. Shane shows her how she can override the system and manually reduce her clocked hours to 60 so that she can work extra hours. “When do you sleep?” she queries him to no avail. Oh that pesky Sharky. Owen is not happy with Derek for blowing off the suits. Derek does not appear too bothered about this. Later on, Sharky goes rogue on a patient (who happens to be Alex’s dad!) and tries to tackle a difficult procedure rather than call for an attending. Things turn sour in the OR and Murphy asks someone to go find help, while Shane scrambles to repair a tear in the patient’s chest. Eventually Murphy leaves the OR to find an attending, when she realises Shane has completely lost his marbles, saying “I got her” when the patient is a man and the walls of his heart are disintegrating. Murphy locates Webber and pulls him into the OR. Webber realises Shane is in some kind of PTSD sleep deprived state and tells him everything is going to be fine, he just needs to leave and go get some rest. Shane experiences flashbacks to when he tricked Heather Brooks into checking on Richard, which led to her death. He leaves the OR and we get a pretty graphic shot of him trailing blood into a nearby elevator. Richard and Murphy struggle to get Jimmy’s heart pumping again and it looks as though he might be dead. The wedding ensues... Callie tells Arizona she wants to celebrate the initiation of phase two of her and Derek’s trial that she inspired. Arizona starts to cry ‘cause of, you know, weddings. Steph jokingly tells Jackson that he’s “ruined Kepner’s wedding” when he releases a butterfly way too early, by accident. Bailey is excitedly telling Ben she might be able to cure her patient and he tells her he’s worried she might be quitting surgery again. Bailey retorts by reminding Ben that he too just quit surgery and that her symptoms worsened when he showed up unemployed on her doorstep. #CanOfWorms Wedding venue is super pretty FYI, April’s family farm is super cute (though probably smells?). Inside the barn, April looks “so beautiful” that she reduces Arizona to a blubbering mess. Oh how I’ve missed our comedy crying Arizona. It turns out she’s really just crying over Callie though because she’s scared she’ll never be enough for Callie now that Callie sees her as a one-legged victim/cheater that needs fixing. She has a point I guess.

Arizona also admits the reason she cheated that night was that the lady was attracted to her even though she’d never met her before the accident. Okay so all this inappropriate crying and spilling of feelings right here that’s getting April all in a tizz, is exactly why ARIZONA NEEDS TO GO TO THERAPY. Christina and Meredith eventually enter and being to work out their shit - Mer admits she’s insanely jealous and Christina admits she sees them growing further apart.

Everybody bows their head in silent prayer before the nuptials begin, and Derek’s phone goes off. It’s a call from the president. It turns out that brain mapping stuff is pretty serious. Methinks it’s not going to be fun telling Meredith he won’t be able to spend quite so much time at home! The vicar (?) tells everyone to wish April and Matthew well on their journey together and Jackson suddenly finds himself unable to do so. Stephanie looks at him as he stares straight ahead, then whispers that he’s sorry before standing up and walking into the aisle. About to say something he quickly sits down again and everybody breaths a sigh of relief. He looks anxious for a second, then he looks at April, straightens up, stand up and announces:

Oh. My. God. Even though I totally predicted this would happen way back when April first got engaged, I still loved this whole sequence! Bravo writers, for pulling this off... From the miraculously non-cheesy rendition of “Bright Eyes” playing in the background, to the “stand up” voiceover, to Jackson’s hesitation, to the Mark Sloan pep talk tie in (!!), to Alex’s exacerbated face, to April’s little half-smile just before the screen blacks out... It all felt like perfection to me.

Also, the fact that Japril has gone from my most hated to possible fave couple in the space of four seasons is the closest I’ll ever come to experiencing an actual Christmas miracle. Amen, Grey’s Anatomy, amen.
