In his new film focusing on the aftermath of First Lady Eva Peron’s death, director Pablo Aguero has cast Gael Garcia Bernal as naval officer Emilio Eduardo Massera, a prominent officer in the Argentinian junta that was in charge of the deaths and disappearances in the 70’s and 80’s in Argentina.

Alongside him will star Mia Maestro (most recently seen as Carmen in the Twilight saga) as Eva Peron herself. The director states: “In this film, I want to show what Evita generated, a massive revolt against the injustices of capitalism, followed by a repression that was disproportionate, brutal and yet unsuccessful in shutting her voice forever.”

The story revolves around the fate of Eva’s corpse which remained unburied for 25 years while Argentina suffered at the hands of corrupt government.
