Paige Beller Presents Her “Failed Attempts and Cigarettes” Video

“‘Failed Attempts and Cigarettes’ is about getting in your own way and letting the worst parts of yourself consume you.”

As a talented multi-instrumentalist, Paige Beller has been making waves on the indie music scene for about a decade. Her music, created with drums, guitars, keys, synths and loops, often sounds more like that which is created by a full band rather than a solo artist, and adds a whole new impressive dimension and edge to every track she releases. Lyrically, her songs are honest and vulnerable, allowing her to connect on a more personal and intimate level with her growing fanbase. Today, PopWrapped are delighted to premiere the video for her latest single “Failed Attempts and Cigarettes.”

Paige says of her latest single, taken from her first full-length LP ‘I’ll Be Better’ which drops on September 3rd: “‘Failed Attempts and Cigarettes’ is about getting in your own way and letting the worst parts of yourself consume you. It was written as a way for me to hopefully do something constructive with that feeling. My writing happens in bursts, most often during extreme bouts of emotion. This song is an expression of self-loathing, and the hopelessness that comes with that. It’s a complete indulgence of a feeling that seems so real when you’re inside it.”

She goes onto add that: “The video was conceptualized and animated by Katie Marks. The opening line of the song is a nod to “Being John Malkovich” so they took that thought and added little references into the storyline. Stop motion animation is incredibly time consuming and I’m floored by anyone who has the patience to create such an intensive piece of art. Plus it’s really fun to see myself as a paper puppet. You don’t often get to see how other people see you through their eyes.
