On October 21, a Papa John's store was robbed in Columbia, TN. During the robbery, an employee, 22-year-old Gordon Schaffer was killed. His funeral was held last Saturday and in addition to his mourning friends and family, Papa John's founder and CEO, John Schnatter, was also in attendance. In the aftermath of the robbery and dead of Schaffer, the company released this statement: "We are deeply saddened by this senseless tragedy and our thoughts and prayers are with the Schaffer family. The safety of our employees is our top priority. We are providing counseling for our team members, and we are fully cooperating with local law enforcement during this investigation." According to Schaffer's family, Papa John's has been extremely supportive and covered all of the hospital and funeral expenses. A 17-year-old, Darious Fitzpatrick, has already been arrested and charged with robbery and murder in the death of Schaffer, but there is another suspect still being sought.
