Meredith Salenger and Patton Oswalt Engaged: New Love After Loss

Patton Oswalt’s late wife, Michelle McNamara, a writer, passed away last year due to complications from prescription medication and a heart condition. The couple have one young daughter, Alice. Since his wife’s passing, Oswalt has been very open about his experience following her death, as well as raising his daughter alone. “When I initially started talking about it on Facebook, people reached out to me and said, ‘Oh that really, really helped me.’ And it really helped me to get over my grief – like I take part in a grief group,” he told NPR earlier this year. “Helping other people out who are going through this – this is a very selfish thing – but it helps me out.”

As Oswalt and Salenger slowly made their relationship public, it was clear the two shared a strong bond. It also encouraged Oswalt to return to Twitter following his earlier self-imposed summer break from the site.

For TV fans, the pairing is good news all around. Patton Oswalt is best known for his role as Spence on the long-running CBS comedy The King of Queens, in addition to his starring voice work in Disney’s Ratatouille and other TV and film roles including Young Adult, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Veep, and The Goldbergs. Salenger got her big break in the 1985 Disney film The Journey of Natty Gann, which also featured a 19-year-old John Cusack. In more recent years, Salenger has done voice work for shows like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and appeared in series such as Hollywood Heights and Grey’s Anatomy.

Fans and colleagues alike have been sharing the social media love for Oswalt and Salenger, including The Rock, who chimed in with his good wishes after Salenger shared a photo of her Dwayne Johnson-Photoshopped “rock.”

Many congratulations to the happy couple!
