Tom Hiddleston surprised fans in Nashville last night – by staging a concert in character as Hank Williams!
Hiddleston is playing the country music legend in 2016 film I Saw The Light and took to the small Nashville bar to perform some of Williams’ greatest hits, such as “Move It On Over”, “Hey Good Lookin’” and “Why Don’t You Love Me Like You Used To Do”. Fan videos of the event can be seen below:
I Saw The Light was originally set for release on November 28th, 2015 but has been pushed back to March 25th, 2016. It debuted at this year’s Toronto film festival but despite critics praising Hiddleston’s performance, the film generally garnered disappointing reviews. Sony Picture Classics have however cited Hiddleston’s busy schedule to be a major factor in the decision.
“We looked at the landscape and are making a decision that I think is a good one for the film,” said SPC Co-President Tom Bernard. “Tom Hiddleston’s got three movies out potentially, so the press is consuming him.”
The film has previously been a hot Oscar contender but the new release date means it will have to wait until the 2017 awards if it wants to be nominated.
