Just when you thought you’d heard it all…

A petition was posted on the popular site change.org and has been gaining momentum; it’s asking the International Olympic Committee to revoke Caitlyn Jenner’s gold medal, the one that she won in the 1976 summer games in Montreal, Quebec.

While the petition, written by Jennifer Bradford, congratulates Caitlyn Jenner on her transition and celebrates her talent as an athlete, it nevertheless manages to take a negative turn. Bradford believes that because Caitlyn has stated that she's always identified as female, then her win is in direct violation of the IOC guidelines in that she was competing in men’s sports when she was in fact a woman. The petition also asks that Jenner support the transgender community by relinquishing her medal willingly.

The petition has gained some traction, and boasts over 12,000 signatures to date, a short ways away from its goal of 15,000.

Personally, I find this petition to be offensive, and I’m sure/hopeful that the IOC has rules and regulations in place that could have them easily turn down this ridiculous request. Jenner should not be stripped of her accomplishments simply because she’s decided to live her life openly and honestly.

What do you guys think about the petition?
