The live action film adaptation of the anime series Ghost In The Shell has received another cast member! After announcing that Scarlett Johansson would portray the series lead character and cyborg, Major Motoko Kusanagi - it has now been announced that Game of Thrones star Pilou Asbæk will be the next to join the cast as Batou, the best fighter in their territory known as Section 9, and second in command of their army. The relationship between Batou and Motoko has been one of my favorite aspects of the Ghost in the Shell franchise, and hopefully the two will re-create that energy after previously working together in the action/sci-fi film Lucy.
Ghost in the Shell tells the story of a cyborg named Motoko and her lead over an elite special task force, while capturing or defeating criminals and preserving the company known as Hanka Robotics. The series has spawned anime series, stand alone extended episodes, films, OVAs, and a worldwide interest from the grim cyber-based world. With three anime live-action adaptations in the works (Ghost in the Shell, Death Note, and Naruto) here's hoping that this film will be executed well enough to further studios interest in adapting anime series into films - but only time will tell! (I will never stop hoping for a Cowboy Bebop film). Ghost in the Shell will be written by Jonathan Herman, directed by veteran director Rupert Sanders, and produced by Steven Paul and Avi Arad with a current release date slated for March 31, 2017! What are your thoughts on the casting choice? and Let us know what anime series you'd like to see adapted into a live-action film next!
